Cross-Border Mobility of Public Sector Workers

Christoph Demmke, Gerhard Hammerschmid and Renate Meyer

This study on public sector mobility has been carried out by the Human Resources Working Group during the Austrian Presidency.
The European Commission has designated the year 2006 as the "European Year of Workers' Mobility". On the one hand, it aims at stressing the great importance of the Free Movement of Workers to be one of the four freedoms of the European Union. On the other hand, it should set off a debate on the real benefits and challenges of working abroad or changing jobs for EU Citizens within the EU.
